Hi all! 💖

I know I have been non present lately and mostly posting reviews but weirdly, during summer, I thought I’d take a break from electronics. I’m on a computer pretty much all day, all week. I know it’s pretty bad but I’m used to studying with it, blogging with it, procrastinating with it… So I needed some time off while, in the same time, tackling all of the ARCs that I have on Netgalley. I don’t know if I’ve mentionned it before but because I’m from Morocco, I thought there were little chances I’d get approved for a book and so I requested like 30 for the hopes of getting one but well, I got nearly all of them 😂 Don’t get me wrong, I am VERY grateful of course! I just realized very lately that there was an archive date and I felt stupid. 🙃 Netgalley’s the best though, for real!

Anyway, now I’m back to studying and although my schedule is pretty hectic, this time, I have many reviews that are to be posted because I’ve been on a reading spree and not reviewing anything on here, aside from my most recent reads like Warcross. I’m still thinking about changing the theme of the blog and have some content about the TV Shows and movies I’ve been watching. (shows>>>>movies though unless it’s Disney, i’m addicted 😂)

Now about the tag! I’ve been using Goodreads non-stop these last days, both to update and add books I see in all of the Fall Recommendations posts + Spooky reads to my TBR. I don’t think I’ve ever read a “scary” book aside from Carrie by Stephen King and that was years and years ago. Gotta remedy that! If you have any recommendations, please, let me know! And so it’s because of me, visiting Goodreads every two seconds, that I thought I’d do this tag. I have not been tagged but I’m obsessed with Goodreads and so, here we goo!!

1. What was the last book you marked as ‘read’?

The Butterfly Garden which is probably the worst book I’ve read this year. I gave it two stars only because the plot was okay but the writing? The writing is horrible! There’s no other way to say it really.

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "the butterfly garden"

2. What are you currently reading?

Oh my…  😂 Well, you know. I wish I was the type to read just one book at a time, but I’m not. I have 18 books in my currently reading shelf on Goodreads separated into two categories: “Primary” and “Secondary” reads aka the ones I’m actually reading and the ones that I decide to read once I feel like it and they usually take months to finish. So I’m going to talk about the “Primary” category because there are some books there that I forgot were there in the first place!

  • An Enchantment of Ravens Margaret Rogerson // This was the book of the month for the Perustopia Book Club. So far, so good! I really like the writing
  • A Court of Wings and Ruin Sarah J. Maas // I nearly finished this one and I love how it’s finally picking up. I can’t say that I’ve liked this one the way I’ve liked the second book in the series but it’s still an enjoyable read!
  • Keep You Safe Melissa Hill // Nearly done with this one as well! I’m surprised at how much I’ve liked this one. My liking of this book is mostly driven by my hate for one of the main characters though. So I flew through this book to see one person fail. Yay!!
  • Burial Rites Hannah Kent // I’ve started this one before one of my classes and now I keep reading a little bit of it each time I go to class. Works as a motivation to actually go because I really like this book and I really want to read as much of it as possible. (how to use books to go early to your classes ft. a very lazy student)
  • The Female of The Species Mindy McGinnis // I have spent forever looking for this book and I’ve finally managed to get it!! Now I finally get to see why it was most people’s favourite.
  • Red Rising Pierce Brown // The last book that was recently added to this primary category. I am looking forward to reading this one because I have heard so much about it. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish it but we’ll try!

3. What was the last book you marked as ‘TBR’?

The Abyss Surrounds Us Emily Skrutskie // I was going around Twitter and there was one person who was looking for books where enemies grew into lovers which seemed interesting to me because it reminded me of Pride and Prejudice. I loved Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy’s quarrels so, why not look for more relationships like theirs?

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "The Abyss Surrounds Us"

4. What book do you plan to read next?

If I finish all of the books mentionned above, I will be reading A Beautiful, Terrible Thing which is a memoir by Jen Waite. It’s the author’s story about how she uncovers that her whole marriage was based on lies.

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "a beautiful terrible thing"

5. Do you use the star rating system?

Yes! And I shall soon make a post about it.

6. Are you doing a 2017 Reading Challenge?

No! I had made a post about why I chose not to at the beginning of 2017. I’ve set it to 1 book on my account.

7. Do you have a wishlist?

If I’ve made a wishlist, it’ll probably end up looking like my TBR on Goodreads and have like 1900+ books. I’m incorrigible!

8. What book do you plan to buy next?

The Wise Man’s Fear Patrick Rothfuss // Although I am not planning on buying it real soon because there are still renovations going on at the house and most of my books are still in boxes, I’d prefer not to add other boxes. 😭

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "The Wise Man's Fear"

9. Do you have any favorite quotes, would you like to share a few?

“We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already.” // J.K. Rowling

“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! — When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.” // Jane Austen

“There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.” // Jane Austen

“My idea of good company…is the company of clever, well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation; that is what I call good company.’
‘You are mistaken,’ said he gently, ‘that is not good company, that is the best.” // Jane Austen

10. Who are your favorite authors?

The ones that haven’t deceived me no matter how many books I’ve read: Jane Austen (duh!), J.K. Rowling and Brandon Sanderson.

11. Have you joined any groups?

  • Morocco Book Club // Still brand new. I am really excited about this group because I don’t really know many readers in my community.
  • Perustopia Book Club // Hosted by Regan (@PeruseProject) and Sasha (@abookutopia). I love Regan’s fantasy reads choices and love their live shows!
  • Storytime with Squibbles // Also newly created by Joce @squibblesreads. Currently reading Stay With Me. I’ve always loved Joce’s recommendations (that’s why I’m reading Burial Rites now) on her channel and she’s always promoting diverse reads so I HAD to join the book club once I heard about it.
  • Our Shared Shelf // Emma Watson’s very famous feminist book club.
  • Austentatious Book Club // I love Jane Austen. I had to!
  • ARCs Anonymous // Well… Drowning in ARCohol is a thing!

If you’ve done this tag before and don’t feel like re-doing it, no pressure! Feel free to skip it.

If you don’t have a Goodreads account, I encourage you to make one. I am spending more time on it now than on any other social media, it’s a life saver! Although it is real bad if you’re trying to control your TBR 😂

Alright, that’s it for today, happy reading!

How I Choose My Books // Tag

Hello to you all! 💖

I would love to say: I choose all books!! THE END. But nope. It’s not really how it goes … Since there are so many books to read and so little time, one has to be picky! I saw this tag on Thrice Read the other day and I thought I might give it a shot because it sounded like a nice thing to discuss and I also loved her answers so much that it made me wanna do the same.

So, without further ado, here’s how I choose my books:

1// Find a book on your shelves with a blue cover. What made you pick up that book in the first place?

p1I have picked up Beartown by Fredrik Backman because everyone has been talking about A Man Called Ove (that I have yet to read + they both have blue-ish covers) and I needed to get the rest of his books too. It has also been recommended to me a million time but now that it has been, I’m afraid to pick it up while having sky-high expectations. I’m afraid nothing’s gonna change that though… I hope I’ll get to pick them up soon.

2// Think of a book you didn’t expect to enjoy but did. Why did you read it in the first place?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I usually don’t like romance in books. I find myself quite often go like “Ugh” and “Ew” and “Meh” whenever I read a book filled with romance but my dear Jane Austen has changed everything. And now, whenever I need a dose of romance, I go back to her.

3// Stand in front of your bookshelf with your eyes closed and pick a book at random. How did you discover this book?

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. I’ve discovered this book through Maxwell’s channel: welldonebooks.

4// Pick a book that someone personally recommended to you. What did you think of it?

David Copperfield by Charles Dickens and I absolutely loved it!

5// Pick a book you discovered through book blogs. Did it live up to the hype?

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas and sadly, no. BUT, I’m currently reading A Court of Mist and Fury and I’m enjoying it much much more so maybe it isn’t that bad after all!

6// Find a book on your shelves with a one word title. What drew you to this book?

Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. I had gone to the library and saw this big chunky book with black and white edges and I thought “Hm, interesting, let’s see what’s inside!” and I was sold! Loved the format and I really enjoyed the experience of reading the book! I’ve now started Gemina and I’m loving it so far!

7// What book did you discover through a film/TV adaptation?

p7A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. I have never heard of this series before the Netflix adaptation came out. I know that a lot of people have read these books while younger and so my answer might seem like an odd one but believe me, I have never heard of that series while growing up. But then again I’ve heard of no series besides Harry Potter…

8// Think of your all-time favourite books. When did you read these and why did you pick them up in the first place?

p8Am I supposed to make an all-time favourite books list? Oh my… I think I’ll better just tell you the story of how I came accross Harry Potter aka all-time favourite series!

I was never encouraged to read while growing up but I had this “weird” habit of reading and re-reading all the mini-required-reading-books the week before school started. I knew I loved stories! To my greatest surprise I have found out that the school I was going to for my 7th Grade had a library! I asked for a library card during my first day in and went to pick up the thickest book on the shelves: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. (There was Les Misérables too but I’ve read the first sentence and thought it was too hard.) So I took home the fifth book of the series, understood nothing and was really disappointed. I told the nice lady at the library the next day and she explained to my ignorant self that I needed to read the first book in the series and then move on to the others. And that is how I came to read the first six books in a few weeks (the seventh hadn’t come out yet, not in french), depriving myself of sleep.

And soo that’s it for this tag! I hope you enjoyed it and feel free to do it yourself if, like me, you thought that it might be fun for you to do!

Do any of these questions remind you of a certain book you’ve picked up? Or else, how do you choose your books?

All About My Shows Tag

Hellooo everyone! 💖

I have been meaning to write reviews of the shows that I’ve been watching since forever but somehow I always find myself thinking that maybe I just won’t be able to do it right because I don’t know if I could be critical about a show or a movie. Maybe I’ll try it once and see how it turns out. For now though, I have come accross this tag on Book Adventures and it sounded so much fun and I also loved her answers as it included loads of tv shows that I also love so I thought it’d be an awesome way to answer a few questions about them: tv shows aka what I spend my time on when I’m not reading! (+ here’s a gif that legit almost looks like me a few minutes ago when I was watching Full House)

giphy (1).gif

This tag has been created by Nyx @Drizzle and Hurricane Books and what a great tag she’s created!! You can check out the original post by clicking on the link.

Now without further ado, let’s tackle the questions!

1.First TV Show EVER watched:

I still remember the first day my cousin has come up to me and started talking about TV shows and wanting to seem “cool”, I said YES to all the “Have you ever seen “X show”?” that I had to Google after he’s left. Dexter was the shortest name and the only one I’ve remembered. And so Dexter is the first show I’ve watched! 😂 Haven’t finished it all though!

2.All-time Favorite:

giphy (2).gif

I’m still looking for a show that will beat it. I’m considering re-watching it. I’ve only seen it a year ago for the first time ever but since then and I’m still not satisfied! I need more!

3.Character Crush:

giphy (3).gif

giphy (4).gif

I adore both of them so much! Although I haven’t been watching Grey’s Anatomy lately, I still miss Callie and I can’t stop talking about her to everyone, whether they have watched the show or not. Same for Donna! They’re both very strong and very charismatic.

4. Favorite OTP:

giphy (5).gif

Sure, there are lots of others like Dereck and Meredith or Luke and Lorelai but Monica and Chandler, this… This is special!

5. Most disappointing ending or cancellation:

giphy (6).gif

Aaaand the villain here is Netflix for cancelling the Sense8… Sure, they have a 2 hour finale planned for 2018 but is that enough? No.

6.A show you would like to be on:

giphy (7).gif

Since I’ve overused Friends, I think it would be pretty cool to grow up in a Full House!

7. A character you’d love to take on a date:

giphy (8).gif

Always had a thing for ambitious people. 🙈 He’s also a really nice person even though he doesn’t always show it.

8. A popular TV show you can’t stand:

The Vampire Diaries. I actually watched the 6 first seasons but then I was completely done with it. I kept watching The Originals that I gave up on after a while too but I’d totally go back just for Klaus, lol.

9.A scene that made you cry like a baby:

If you’ve watched Grey’s Anatomy, you know there are loads of these scenes… But as Michelle @Book Adventures has mentioned on her post, the plane crash scene is where it was all too much!

10. A character with a killer wardrobe:

I’ll go with Rachel Zane from Suits. Although hers is not my IRL style but I wish it was! In fact, I love aall of the wardrobes in Suits!

And that’s it for my answers! If you too have enjoyed this tag and thought that it was fun, I’m tagging you to do it and I can’t wait to read all of your answers! Especially for the scenes that made you cry because somehow I’m a sucker for great drama 😂

Do you tend to watch loads of tv shows? Which ones are your favorite and do you have any recommendations? Especially for a show that’s like Friends because God, I really need help with that one 😐 I shouldn’t have watched it so soon!

Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

Helloo! ❤

I’ve mainly been posting reviews for the past two months and I’ve seen this tag around for a while in both the blogosphere and the booktube community. I know that we’ve been halfway through 2017 for a while now but I guess it’s never too late, hehe?

I haven’t been tagged by anyone but it really appealed to me and so I thought: why not? I have read 45 books so far in 2017. I’ve got to admit though that I didn’t have much time to read and I’m planning to do most of my reading during the holidays. Still, I’ve had a few favorites and a few disappointments and that’s what we’re going to discuss today in this tag.

1. Best book you’ve read so far

Oh my, oh my, oh my! I can’t be a normal person and so I’ll pick a few more than just one book for this category. Therefore, here are my picks:

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far

The question is: Have I read any sequels? I have only started reading series and so I don’t have that many on my list. In case sequels in graphic novels count too, then I’ll definitely pick all the volumes of Locke & Key basically because I’ve loved this graphic novel SO MUCH, you can’t even imagine! You should definitely pick it up and give it a try :

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "locke and key volume 2"
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

SO MANY! But let’s say these two because I’ve heard so many great things about them and sadly, I haven’t managed to find them in my country yet soooo:

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "when dimple met rishi" Résultat de recherche d'images pour "strange the dreamer"
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

These babies:

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "little fire everywhere" Résultat de recherche d'images pour "warcross" Résultat de recherche d'images pour "the dreadful tale of prosper redding"
5. Biggest disappointment.

I know that the second book is said to be much better but I think this still counts as biggest disappointment, not of 2017, but ever! I’ve been hearing so much about this series that I thought it was going to be some extraordinary stuff but nope… Not at all!

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "a court of thorns and roses"
6. Biggest surprise.

I was not expecting for it to affect me the way it did! I am really glad I got it through Netgalley. It was a very pleasant surprise!

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "words in deep blue"

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

I would say Colson Whitehead or Cath Crowley. I loved both their writing!
8. Newest fictional crush.

Oops, I don’t really have any new ones to be honest… But if we can count re-reads then OF COURSE: Mr. Darcy! He’s not new though, not new at all!

9. Newest favourite character.

If it’s newest then I’ll probably be talking about Meg Ashley in my last read: The Weight of Lies. She was badass and I really loved the character development in there!

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "the weight of lies"
10. Book that made you cry.

I was quite the cry-er this year but I’d say that the book that has made me cry the most was: This Impossible Light.

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "this impossible light"
11. Book that made you happy.

While looking at the list of books I’ve read, I’ve noticed that a lot of them were sad books! No wonder I cried a lot while reading… Although this has also made me cry, it was still very cute:

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, #1)
12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year.

I had no time to watch movies so I sticked to my good ol’ Full House sooo I don’t really have an answer to this question as of now.
13. Favourite book post you have done so far in this year

Perhaps my review of Night Film or the discussion post Books vs Ebooks that I had so much fun writing!

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

Definitely this edition of Little Women:

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "little women book"
15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

I would really like to complete the challenges I’ve picked up at the beginning of the year! But my main goal right now is to complete the reading and the reviewing of my Netgalley TBR. I’ve let it go out of control somehow because I thought I’d get like 1 approval out of every 50 requests I’d made since I don’t live in America or Europe but cleaaaarly, it doesn’t work that way!

So (by date of publication):

  • The Truth We Bury by Barbara Taylor Sissel
  • Are You Sleeping by Kathleen Barber
  • The Address by Fiona Davis
  • Girl in Snow by Danya Kukafka

Have you read any of the books that were mentioned in this tag? Do you agree with any of my choices?

I’d also love to know some of your answers to these questions! So, if you haven’t done this tag yet, you’re welcome to do it! If you’ve already done it then let me know because I’d love to read all of your posts! ❤
